Madero, Mexico (10/21/2024) – The independent international and domestic multi-award-winning short documentary film, “Justice for George Floyd: The Tipping Point?” was honored with Official Selection status, Documentary Short Film for the FICCMADERO – Festival Internacional de Cine de Ciudad Madero. It was produced and directed by Dr. Christopher C. Odom, MFA, PhD. The documentary short film explores the use of imagery and narrative on social media during the Justice for George Floyd Protests and offers activities strategies for future social movements rooted in social justice, social change, and equity for people of color.
FICCMA was born from the idea of Adrián Contreras originally from Ciudad Madero, Tamaulipas when he had to travel to Cannes in 2016 where he participated with his short film called LA CAMA. He met the French beach Palm Beach located in the Maritime Alps, Provence- Alps-Côte d’Azur. And it was there that the idea of making an International Film Festival of Ciudad Madero and its beautiful beach came up, which is considered the most important tourist attraction in the state of Tamaulipas. Located in the municipality of Ciudad Madero, metropolitan area of Tampico, and is considered one of the most beautiful beaches in the entire Gulf of Mexico.
FICCMA is building a path for all those independent filmmakers who are looking for a window to screen their film and deserve recognition through our festival. Many of the winning shorts in FICCMA have excelled in official selections such as Los Arieles. Currently the festival has been accepted in many countries such as the United States, Canada, Spain, Costa Rica, Colombia, England, Brazil, Peru, Argentina, among others.
